Atlanta: Who is Going Big? #GoBig

Posted on Sep 23, 2013 by in Leadership, Startup Funding, Technology | 1 comment

Happy Monday!  I want to formally apologize for your lack of sleep last night…I understand that seeing me on camera can be a scary proposition.  On Sunday, the ATL Tech Edge show on 11 Alive aired an interview where of course I gave the WhatCounts pitch as well as shared my views on Atlanta’s technology eco-system and my personal desire to see a “transformational technology business” start here, grow here, and stay here.

Allen Nance

To continue the dialog, I thought I would solicit some help.  What companies do you know that are “going big”?  Use the comment box within this blog to share your list.  I have a few companies that immediately jump out:

AirWatch (Mobility + Software), have you read this interview with Alan Dabbiere?

Endgame (Information Security)

CloudSherpas (SaaS Cloud)

Cloud Sherpas is the two-time Google Enterprise Partner of the Year for Google Apps, a Platinum salesforce.com partner and the first ServiceNow partner to reach Preferred partner status globally. As one of the world’s leading cloud services brokerages we’ve helped over 5,000 customers adopt, manage and enhance cloud solutions from Google, salesforce.com, ServiceNow and other leading cloud vendors.

This is certainly not a comprehensive list.  I need your help.  What companies are in Atlanta that are currently on a track to do 1 billion in revenue, stay in Atlanta, stay private (or publicly traded) but not sell, become an anchor technology company, drive innovation, create wealth for hundreds of individuals (not just one or two)?  I commit to studying these companies and blogging about the lessons learned for everyone’s benefit.  Do you see anything interesting about these particular companies?  A couple of quick thoughts: first, they are lead by seasoned entrepreneurs, secondly they raised capital to lead a market, lastly their particular markets are huge.  Who else is going big?

  1. Allen,

I would say that Scoutmob would fit this criteria. I think they’re strategy is brilliant, once they can fully break away from the “daily deals” stereotype and be embraced as a mobile focused company, I think they will explode.

Mailchimp doesn’t seem like they are going anywhere any time soon.

I think they are really small now but Augur has a lot of potential to “go big” I think what they are doing is really interesting.

These are just a few off the top of my head. Great post and I love the new drive to “go big”
